How to look ten years younger without surgery

Wearing the right makeup — and applying it properly — can make you look younger than you are. Here's how to appear more youthful — instantly!

A legendary movie actress recently had an interview with dailyglow.com. Now in her sixties, she’s still admired for her timeless beauty and grace. She said her secret is her positive attitude — and the right makeup. Whether you’re 30 or 60, here’s how to look younger instantly:

  • Go easy on foundation and powder. Heavy makeup and powder end up settling into fine lines and wrinkles, accentuating them. Instead, dab on concealer with your ring finger to hide dark circles or large spots, and use a tinted moisturizer over the rest of your face. If you have trouble areas, like crow’s-feet or lines above the upper lip, try using a primer first.
  • Keep your eyes and lips soft. Skip lip liner, or use it sparingly, in short, light strokes rather than a sharp, harsh line. The same goes for eyeliner. Eyes sink in and lips shrink over time, and using too much liner makes them look even smaller. I notice that my actress patient wears peachy-pink and pink-brown lipsticks rather than dark reds.
  • Keep your brows full. Eyebrows tend to get thinner over time, especially at the outer ends, so keeping them fuller will give you a more youthful appearance. If you had a Pamela Anderson moment and overplucked, and your brows never grew back, try filling them in with a soft eyebrow pencil. Keep the look natural by using short strokes to mimic the way your brow hairs grow (don’t draw a continuous line, because your eyebrows don’t grow that way).
